Packaging plays a very important role in the production process of plantain chips. It can effectively isolate the air and extend the shelf life of plantain chips. But what type of packaging is used for plantain chips?
Common plantain chips packing types:
Depending on the bag design, plantain chips are usually packaged in the following ways:

1. Back-seal bag packaging
Back-seal bag is the most common packaging form, with three sides sealed and only the center line of the back sealed. It has a simple structure, low cost, and is suitable for automated high-speed production. It is commonly used in low- and medium-priced products, or small packaging specifications (such as 30g, 50g).
2. Stand-up pouch packaging (gusseted bag/zipper bag)
Stand-up pouches have a reinforced structure at the bottom of the bag, which allows them to stand up on the shelf. They are beautiful and easy to display. Some stand-up pouches also have zipper closures, which are convenient for consumers to open and close multiple times to keep the banana chips fresh. This type of packaging is mostly used in the high-end market or for family-sized products.
In the process of packaging plantain chips, factories mostly use combination weigher packaging machines because combination weighers have the following significant advantages:
- High precision: The combination scale uses multiple independent weighing units, and combines several sets of data closest to the target weight through computer algorithms to achieve accurate measurement. Banana chips have irregular shapes and different densities, which are prone to errors when using traditional single-head scales.
- High-speed operation: The combination scale packaging machine runs fast, which can greatly improve packaging efficiency and is suitable for large-scale continuous production needs.
- Reduce waste: Accurate weighing reduces overweight or underweight situations and saves costs.
- High degree of automation: The entire set of equipment can be linked with bag making, filling, sealing, coding and other processes to form a fully automatic packaging line, reduce manual operations, and increase production capacity.
Things to note when packaging plantain chips
In order to ensure the quality and packaging effect of plantain chips, the following points should be noted during the packaging process:
- Prevent breakage: Plantain chips are fragile and easy to break. During the packaging process, the conveying and unloading speeds should be controlled, and buffer slides or drop heights should be used as much as possible to reduce impact.
- Control moisture and scalability: Plantain chips easily absorb moisture and become soft, so the packaging material needs to have good barrier properties, such as aluminum foil composite film or high barrier BOPP material. At the same time, the sealing process must be firm to prevent air from entering.
- Temperature and hygiene control: The packaging area should maintain a low-humidity, clean environment to prevent the product from absorbing moisture or secondary contamination and ensure food safety.
- Coding and traceability: The packaging bags should be clearly marked with information such as production date, shelf life, batch number, etc. to facilitate product traceability management and market supervision.
